Twenty-nine (29) protesters from yesterday’s tragic “Arise Ghana” demonstrations are being held by police.
Police have said that protest organizers will face charges and according to police, t he demonstrators’ “violent assault” on police, was the reason for the arrests.
29 protesters were detained for assaulting police and bystanders, including children, during the Arise Ghana march in Accra.
The Ghana Police Service has stated that it is reviewing the incident’s video and will detain any perpetrators.
Several police claims were refuted by Arise Ghana organizers.
A coalition member named Rex Omar claimed at a news conference after the march on Tuesday that a police officer posing as a demonstrator was the first to cast stones at the police to provoke a reaction from the mob.
“Since our members are peaceful, we hoped for a friendly meeting.” This was unexpected. We’ve worked with the police to find a solution for our protest.
