3 FOREIGN NATIONALS ARRESTED IN SAKUMONO OVER SIM BOX FRAUD

Police retrieve sophisticated equipment; two accomplices and alleged Chinese mastermind on the run

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested three foreign nationals for their alleged involvement in a SIM Box fraud operation uncovered in residential apartments at Sakumono Ramsa Site.

The suspects Timileyin Fakunle (30), Begun Adedeji (31), and Olamide Roheemot (28)  were apprehended on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in separate apartments during a coordinated police operation.

A search of their residences led to the discovery of SIM boxes, assorted SIM cards, and sophisticated electronic gadgets believed to have been used in the fraudulent scheme.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly named two accomplices identified only as Mike and Kpalumi who are currently on the run. They also mentioned their alleged ringleader, Tomy, a Chinese national said to remotely control the SIM boxes from an undisclosed location.

Police say efforts are ongoing to collaborate with the National Communications Authority (NCA) to safely dismantle and technically examine the seized equipment to support ongoing investigations.

The suspects remain in police custody, assisting investigators with further inquiries.

In a statement, the Accra Regional Police Command urged property owners to conduct thorough background checks before renting out apartments, as criminals increasingly use residential spaces for cyber-related crimes.

“Property owners and residents are advised to be vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the Police,” the statement said.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating cyber and telecommunication-related crimes, warning that security agencies will continue to pursue individuals and networks involved in fraudulent digital operations across the country.
