40-DAY OBSERVANCE FOR BURGER HIGHLIFE ORIGINATOR, GEORGE DARKO BEGINS MAY 1

A 40-day observation has been announced for the late George Darko.

The Burger Highlife originator, a man of royal stock, was the Okoman Tufuhene of Akropong-Akuapem and served his people bearing the stool name Nana Ampem Darko I.

As part of the line-up of activities for his funeral rites, it has been announced that his 40-day observation begins on May 1, 2024, at PUC Park (Old Salem), Akropong-Akuapem, from 8 AM to 5 PM.

This was captured in a poster shared by the family on social media.

George Darko passed on March 20, 2024, at 73. He was mostly popular from the 1970s to 1990s.

The beloved guitarist, singer-songwriter, and composer churned hit songs including; Ako Te Brofo, Highlife Time, Mensei Da, and Odo Colour.

The late George Darko pioneered ‘Burger Highlife’, which was birthed as a mix of Highlife, Funk, and Disco.

Ghanaian immigrants in Germany in the 70s collaborated with German musicians and producers to make the genre more popular.

Some prominent Burger Highlife giants are the likes of Daddy Lumba and Nana Acheampong, once known as Lumba Brothers; Charles Amoah, Lee Dodou, and so on.
