45 ILLEGAL MINERS BUSTED AS IGP’S ANTI-GALAMSEY CRUSADE INTENSIFIES
The IGP’s nationwide crackdown on illegal mining has intensified, with the Western Central Regional Police Command storming AngloGold Ashanti’s Iduapriem Mines at Mile 7 in Tarkwa on June 18, 2025.
The operation led to the arrest of 45 suspected illegal miners who had invaded the company’s concession to undertake unlawful mining activities.
The raid was spearheaded by Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Kusi Appiah, and involved a 50-man team drawn from the Operations Unit, RCID, PID, and the Formed Police Unit.
During the operation, more than 100 changfan machines were destroyed, while several motorbikes and water-pumping machines used in the illegal operations were seized.
All suspects are currently being held at the Regional Police Headquarters in Tarkwa as investigations continue.
Authorities have confirmed that the arrested individuals will be prosecuted, reinforcing the IGP’s commitment to flushing out illegal miners and protecting Ghana’s natural resources.
