8 STUDENTS OF WINNEBA TECH INSTITUTE UNDER INVESTIGATION OVER VIRAL VIDEO OF OPENLY BRANDISHING WEAPONS

The Winneba Technical Institute is examining eight of its students after a viral video surfaced showing them openly displaying weapons.

In a viral clip posted on X, students in their uniforms were seen waving knives, scissors, and more.

The video has sparked significant anger, especially due to the current situation surrounding SDA student, Suzzy Pinamang, who is still healing from the distress caused by another student bringing a weapon to school.

The Assistant Administrator of the school, Stephen Yaw Asare, stated to CITI NEWS that inquiries are ongoing to reveal all students who appeared in the video.

Stephen Yaw Asare stated, “We assembled the students and were able to unravel some of the students. We took them to the principal’s office to interrogate them further. After the interrogation, we realised they were doing something just for fun, but unfortunately, looking at the nature of the video, we have to take action,” he said.

Akwasi Addo mentioned that officials carry out regular checks, but students often find ways to evade them.

He also urged parents to check their children thoroughly before they go to school.

In a related incident, a 16-year-old form two pupil at Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) has been detained for having a homemade gun without legal permission.

Reports indicate that the arrest occurred after a standard dormitory search conducted by school officials on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

While searching, the school officials found the locally made gun.

The student was subsequently transferred to the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command for additional inquiry.

Reports indicate that the SHS student claimed during questioning that the gun was owned by his stepfather, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi, who has also been arrested by the police.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, May 18.

The SHS student and the stepfather have received police inquiry bail and are required to report to authorities on Monday, May 19, 2025, for further investigations.
