Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, CEO of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, denied allegations that the hospital is a place where patients go to die. He highlighted that these adverse beliefs have prevented individuals from obtaining essential medical treatment at the facility.
During his speech at the end of Korle-Bu’s first Health Fest and photo exhibition on August 30, 2024, Dr. Ampomah pointed out that, based on hospital data, 99% of patients are treated successfully and discharged in good health.
“Negative news has created a false belief that coming to Korle-Bu is a one-way trip to death. This misconception has caused some patients to delay seeking help until their conditions worsen significantly. This reinforces the unfair stereotype that Korle-Bu is a place of no return,” Dr. Ampomah said.
He reassured the public by noting that Korle-Bu admits between 150 and 250 patients daily, with a 99% success rate in treating and discharging them. “While we acknowledge that we are not perfect, many people come to Korle-Bu, receive effective treatment, and return to their daily lives,” he added.
