SOPHIA AKUFFO WAS MY DAD’S GIRLFRIEND AND HELPED RAISE ME – Reggie Rockstone
The Hiplife pioneer reveals the former Chief Justice was one of three maternal figures in his life, sharing intimate details of his multicultural upbringing between the UK, Ghana, and the US.

In a revealing interview on The Delay Show, Hiplife pioneer Reggie Rockstone shared a little-known chapter of his personal history, disclosing that former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo was once his father’s companion and helped raise him during his formative years.
The musician, often called the “Grandpapa of Hiplife,” explained that although his father never married Akuffo, she played a significant maternal role in his upbringing. “From Milly, I was raised by Mum Sophia (Sophia Akuffo, former Chief Justice of Ghana), who was also my father’s companion. We still have a relationship,” Reggie told host Deloris Frimpong-Manso.
Rockstone described being raised by three “beautiful, strong women” across different stages of his life his biological mother Anna, an African American woman named Milly, and later, Sophia Akuffo. His parents’ separation when he was young led to a childhood that moved between the UK, Ghana, and the United States.
He recounted how his mother, a certified nurse in the UK, brought him to Ghana under the pretense of a holiday during a difficult period in her marriage. “My mum told me we were coming for holidays and that’s how I came to Ghana,” he shared.
Reggie also paid tribute to his late father, legendary fashion designer Saint Osei, popularly known as Ricky, noting that he was born into an artistic family. “My dad is the legendary Saint Osei (Ricky). He was a fashion designer, a very successful one at that.”
The revelation offers a rare glimpse into the interconnected lives of Ghana’s cultural and judicial icons, humanizing one of the nation’s most respected legal minds through the personal memories of one of its most influential musicians.
