“I GO ON MY KNEES AND PRAY BEFORE A KISSING SCENE” – Daniel Etim-Effiong
The Nollywood actor and former engineer reveals how faith guides his approach to romantic roles, challenging filmmakers to explore diverse expressions of intimacy beyond kissing.

Nollywood actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has opened up about the spiritual discipline that shapes his professional choices, revealing he prays on his knees before filming kissing scenes to stay grounded in his faith and values.
The 37-year-old former engineer turned actor described his work as a “form of worship” during a recent interview, emphasizing that faith, family, and focus remain his guiding principles both on and off set.
“I get all my inspiration from God. I go on my knees and pray before I go to set and kiss. My family is my garden, then my work,” Etim-Effiong shared.
While acknowledging that market demand drives the prevalence of intimate scenes in films, the actor challenged producers to explore alternative expressions of affection. “The fact that I play a lot of romantic roles means I get to have kissing scenes sometimes. But the question should go to the producers, why are they expressing affection only one way? There are other ways to show intimacy,” he noted.
Etim-Effiong approaches romantic roles as part of storytelling but emphasizes handling them with purpose and professionalism. This perspective gave him the courage to leave engineering for acting, which he describes as a calling rather than just a career change.
His thoughtful approach to navigating the intersection of faith, artistry, and commercial demands offers a unique perspective in an industry where such conversations are increasingly relevant.
