GOVERNMENT TO BEGIN ‘NKOKO NKITINKITI’ POULTRY DISTRIBUTION IN MID-NOVEMBER – Deputy Agric Minister, John Dumelo

Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has announced that the government’s biggest poultry effort, the “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” Program, will formally start distributing chicks in mid-November 2025.
Over time, the program, which aims to increase domestic poultry production and lessen Ghana’s need for imported chicken, is expected to distribute three million birds throughout the nation.
During the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., Mr. Dumelo spoke on PM EXPRESS BUSINESS EDITION with host George Wiafe.
He explained that the first phase of the deployment would target constituencies nationwide, with each expected to get roughly 10,000 birds.
“These birds will also be vaccinated, so beneficiaries can immediately begin their poultry farming,”
— John Dumelo, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture.
Mr. Dumelo claims that the distribution will include feed assistance to enable certain farmers to successfully raise their birds.
He stated that the Ministry intends to provide about 50 birds to each of the 200 households in each constituency.
The Deputy Minister underlined that the government will guarantee an open selection procedure, giving priority to those who are truly interested in raising chickens.
“We should see this as an initial investment by the government. When the birds are ready and you sell them, use that money to buy new ones and continue,” he advised.
In order to reduce losses and guarantee sustainability, he continued, the program would primarily target those with some poultry experience.
