4 ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH SHOOTING INCIDENT DURING BURIAL AT ASAMANKESE

Six civilians and three police officers were injured during violent clashes that erupted over a disputed royal cemetery burial, leading to road blockades and widespread unrest.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with a violent shooting incident that disrupted a burial ceremony in Asamankese on Sunday, October 26, 2025, leaving six civilians and three police officers injured.

According to a police statement issued on October 27, law enforcement officers were dispatched after receiving intelligence that individuals were transporting firearms and cartridges near the Chief’s Palace. The operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects Isaac Ntim Nana Yaw Zenyo, Bismark K. K. Adam, 29, and Buaben Richard, 25 and the seizure of one single-barrel gun, 84 live AAA cartridges, seven cutlasses, and two knives.

Following the arrests, agitated youth attacked police with stones and other implements, injuring three officers and damaging two police vehicles. The protesters also blockaded the Asamankese-Akroso junction and areas around the palace, firing guns indiscriminately. The violence stemmed from allegations that a bereaved family planned to bury six deceased relatives in the royal cemetery against local customs.

Six civilians, including David Odame, 28, and Musah Gyakweli, 29, sustained gunshot injuries during the clashes and are currently receiving treatment at Asamankese Government Hospital.

The police have since restored calm in the area, intensifying patrols and surveillance to maintain order. All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
