Veteran Highlife artist, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, has joined the band wagon of celebrities kicking against the approval of the E-levy which is still a subject of contention in Ghana’s Parliament.
He believes he has every reason to assume that the law is being forced on Ghanaians by the legislators who are promoting it, according to the 75-year-old singer.
He said that since there are few work opportunities in the nation, the vast majority of residents do not have occupations that are flexible enough to accommodate such a heavy taxes bill.
Additionally, the Simigwa composer said that the present NPP government has received several financial loans and grants for which they have not yet provided adequate accounting, and that as a result, Ghanaians would be outraged by the implementation of the E-levy law.
It seems to have been imposed on the population of Ghana through force. The fact that your debts are in the billions and that you are promising to develop roads and other infrastructure makes it impossible for you to persuade me that the e-levy would produce income.
“We are not kids. People need to pay when they have flexible jobs and working. Now there are no jobs and the little one in my pocket you want to take it. People are hungry and hungry people always become angry, he told Joy Prime.
