LET HIM SEAL IMF DEAL FIRST – Akufo Addo To NPP MPs Who Want Ofori Atta Sacked

The NPP MPs who want Ken Ofori-Atta to resign as finance minister have been encouraged by Akufo Addo to hold off until the conclusion of Ghana’s negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The President claims that firing Mr. Ofori-Atta will derail the government’s strategy in securing the IMF deal. When Akufo Addo met with the irate MPs at Jubilee House, Nana Akufo-Addo advised them to cool off.

According to Citi News, the MPs didn’t like the appeal and continued to call for the Finance Minister’s resignation.

To complete the negotiations with the IMF, Nana Akufo-Addo has asked Ken Ofori-Atta for an additional three weeks.

Even though they have tried, several NPP MPs claim that the government hasn’t taken any action to assist their constituents who are struggling due to the poor economy.

They organized a news conference on Tuesday, October 20, 2022, to vent their rage and demand the resignation of Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, and Ken Ofori-Atta.

The removal of Ofori-Atta and Adu Boahen, according to Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, MP for the Asante-Akim North Constituency and representative of the disgruntled Majority MPs, will help bring back confidence in Ghana’s economy, he told the media on Tuesday.

“The recent change in the economy is a big worry for our caucus and for the people we represent. We told our president how worried we were about him through the leaders of the party and the parliament, but he didn’t do anything about it.

“We want the president to change the Minister of Finance and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry as soon as possible to give the financial sector hope and stop the slowing growth of the economy,” he said.
