POLITICS KILLED KUMAWOOD – Michael Afranie Says

Veteran actor Michael Afrane wonders why those who claimed that Kumawood’s decline was mostly caused by its unstable energy source, popularly known as “Dumsor,” were so mistaken.

He agreed that the renovation of the Kejetia Market and Dumsor, which had occurred under the previous John Dramani Mahama administration, had contributed to the sector’s collapse.

While he points out that power has been stable since 2017 and that the ultra-modern Kejetia market has been totally restored, but that is still not enough to revive Kumawood, Michael Afranie wonders what the true problem is.

“If Dumsor and the reconstruction of Kejetia market were to blame for the demise of the Kumawood movie business, the sector would have been restored following the installation of electricity and the building of Kejetia market,” the man said.

“We failed to address and eradicate the major issues that were bringing the industry to its knees, but we preferred to blame John Dramani Mahama’s administration on politics,” he said.

“I can boldly say President Akufo-Addo’s government has failed to support the movie industry despite his numerous promises, which forced some actors to campaign against former President John Dramani Mahama,” he ended.
