MAHAMA SHOULD ACCEPT HE ‘MISPOKE’ ON ‘EVEN DOGS WILL REJECT FREE SHS FOOD COMMENT’’ – Min. of Education PRO

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Education Ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng, has reacted to comments by the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer aspirant John Dramani Mahama regarding the poor quality of meals served students in Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country.

The former president challenged journalists to visit SHSs across the country to confirm for themselves if his recent comments about the poor quality of meals being served to the students is not accurate.

Mr Mahama urged the country’s journalists to interview students in the various SHSs in order to know the kind of food being served to them.

Speaking to party delegates in New Juaben North during his three-day tour of the Easter Region, Mr Mahama noted: “Recently, I spoke about the poor quality of meals for students in senior high schools but the NPP insulted me. I want journalists to fact-check.”

“This is a challenge to you [journalists]. Go to the SHS students to ask them about the quality of food being served and, as I said, with apology, that the food being served the children in school not even a dog will eat that food in the house.”

He urged “journalists go to the schools to interview the children and see for yourself if these are the kind of food Senior High School students deserve to eat.”

Reacting to Mr Mahama’s comments in a Facebook post on Friday, 14 April 2023, the Ministry of Education PRO called on the former President to stop comparing the meals served beneficiaries of government’s SHS programme to dogs.

“We want to remind Mr Mahama that not all of us can afford the expensive feed he gives to his foreign-breed dogs. And so he should allow us enjoy our meals in dignity & with respect.

“Mr John Mahama should spare Ghanaian children this utter disrespect by comparing their food to that of dogs’,” Kwasi Kwarteng said.

According to the Education Ministry’s PRO, the comparison “is unacceptable & inhumane.”

He noted that: “The close to 1.4m children, will forever remain grateful for being fed 3 times in a day whilst in school. And that for us, is most important!”

He also urged close associates of the NDC flagbearer aspirant to advise him on his public utterances.
