Nii Torgbor Obodai VI, the chief of Mempeasem who reportedly refused to observe the national anthem at a recently held event in Accra thereby infuriating the president of Ghana has officially reacted to the incident.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was full of rage Friday, June 9, 2023, at the University of Ghana after seeing the above-mentioned royal ruler sitting on his chair during the national anthem observation.
The president who was enraged by this was captured ordering the Greater Accra Regional Minister to take action during a ceremony at the Green Ghana Day event hosted at the University of Ghana.
Inaudible for the most part of his rage, President Akufo-Addo is heard telling the regional minister to “go and tell him…, stand up…”
In a letter to the President signed by the Chief of Mempeasem, he extended his sincerest apologies to President Akufo Addo and the people of Ghana for the incident he described as unfortunate.
Setting the records straight, the embattled chief who is a resident of East Legon stated that he did not elect to willfully refuse to stand to observe the National Anthem as he reckons no patriotic son of the land would demonstrate such misconduct.
According to the Chief of Mempeasem, he did not stand up to observe the national anthem because of ill health as he ‘felt weak’ and was on medication.
He pointed out that he attended the programme because he shares the vision of the President of the Green Ghana Day initiative and despite his condition, he stood up to observe the opening prayer and did the same for the second national anthem in reverence to the President and all distinguished guests.
Nii Torgbor Obodai Ampaw VI acknowledged the president as the custodian of our sovereignty and thus it is his duty at all times to be zealous in defending the same.
