Sir Sam Jonah, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, is reportedly one of the leading contenders to be the running mate of NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, for the 2024 elections.
According to a report by Asaase Radio, its sources in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have stated that Sir Sam Jonah, the former chief executive officer of Ashanti Goldfields, is on top of the list of persons being considered for the running mate position and is considered as the ideal choice by leading figures in the party.
The report indicated that former President John Dramani Mahama and Sam Jonah have grown close over the past few years.
It added that Mahama’s younger brother, Ibrahim Mahama, is playing a strong role in the relationship between the two men.
A source close to Sir Sam Jonah is reported to have told Asaase News that it is no surprise he is been considered to team up with Mahama for the 2024 elections.
The source also said that Sir Jonah was approached to be Mahama’s running mate for the 2012 election but he politely rejected the offer.
The report also indicated that John Mahama and Sam Jonah were spotted together in South Korea two weeks ago, where Sir Jonah introduced the NDC presidential candidate to his rich network of contacts.
Sam Jonah is also reported to be a card-bearing member of the NDC.
