I WOULD HAVE DIED A FOOLISH DEATH – Mama Kali Recalls Receiving GH¢10 From Agya Koo For NPP Campaign

One of the celebrities in show business who vigorously support the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which was in opposition at the time, was actress Mama Kali.

In an interview with GhanaWeb-recorded The Delay Show that aired on Sunday, August 13, 2023, Mama Kali claimed that she later learned that Agya Koo had been handed money for disbursement.

She appeared to be quite furious about learning that she had been told there were no funds set aside for the project throughout the campaign, only for a different story to come to light after she had been in several car accidents.

She recalled receiving a pittance from Agya Koo as payment for a successful campaign that helped the NPP win the 2016 election.

Mama Kali reiterated that she received GH10 from Agya Koo, and occasionally GH20, and claimed the actor had claimed the party had no money due to the country’s economic situation at the time.

She added that the actor had promised they would be adequately catered fo should the NPP and its candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo seize power from the National Democratic Congress and then-president John Mahama.

She has sadly been ignored and hasn’t received anything for her NPP campaigning.

“Agya Koo was the leader,” she recalled. “I really campaigned to the extent that I could be away from home for four days. We went to remote areas.”

“In the beginning, we were not receiving any amount so Agya Koo told us that Nana said there’s no money but we should keep up doing a good job; when they win power, they would take care of us. Indeed, sometimes, we were given GH¢10, GH¢20 after campaigning. The highest we received was GH¢100 after a campaign at Asante Akyem Agogo. That was given to us by Andy Kankam.”

“Interestingly, Agya Koo was receiving sums of money and we got that information from someone,” she recounted. “We had told the fellow we had quit because after we campaigned and survived three road accidents, we earned nothing; we would have died a foolish death for embarking on that journey.”

“After we won, we still didn’t earn anything,” Mama Kali, known in private life as Adwoa Boahemaa, added.
