OCCUPYJUBILEEHOUSE DEMO: GROUP DEFIES POLICE TO PROTEST; OVER 50 MEMBERS ARRESTED

Despite warnings from the police, a significant gathering of protesters assembled at the 37 Trotro Station in Accra on Thursday, September 21, 2023, to partake in the OccupyJubilee House demonstration.

These demonstrators are advocating for a spectrum of reforms, which encompass reducing the cost of living, eradicating corruption, and enhancing governance.

In defiance of a court-issued injunction barring the protest, the participants pressed on, attempting to march to Jubilee House, the official residence of the President of Ghana.

The OccupyJubilee House protest represents the most recent in a series of public demonstrations against the government. In recent months, mounting public dissatisfaction has stemmed from the escalating cost of living and the perceived inadequacy of the government in addressing the concerns of its citizens.

While the government has asserted its commitment to enhancing the lives of Ghanaians, protesters contend that these efforts fall short of what is needed, demanding a higher standard of governance and a better future for the people of Ghana.
