THE INDUSTRY SUPPORTS ONE ARTISTE AT A TIME AND IGNORES OTHERS – Kuami Eugene Laments

Highlife musician, Kuami Eugene expressed concerns about the music industry’s limited capacity to support more than one artist at a time.

He discussed these issues during an interview on Hitz FM’s ‘Daybreak Hitz’ program.

Kuami Eugene highlighted the reasons why the Nigerian music industry appears to be more successful than Ghana’s. He mentioned Nigeria’s access to better musical instruments and its capacity to produce higher-quality music.

The larger population of Nigeria also attracts more investors willing to support local talent.

The artist stressed the need for a collective effort among stakeholders in Ghana to advance the local music industry. He pointed out the tendency in Ghana to favor foreign music, while in Nigeria, there is a stronger emphasis on promoting local music.

“I was in Nigeria, and we were asking some friends why they don’t play Ghanaian music. They have many artistes already. So, before they finish playing their own music, the time is up. When I was there, I had only one Ghanaian song, but I heard it around 2 am. They don’t have space,” Kuami Eugene noted.

Kuami Eugene lamented the situation in Ghana where the system often supports only one artist at a time, even though many artists release music regularly. He argued that there is the potential to support multiple artists simultaneously.

“It’s not like we live in a country where we release one song at a time. More people are releasing songs. But our system supports one artist at a time when there’s room for more,” he stated.
