Ghanaian actor, Prince David Osei has expressed misgivings about celebrities presenting themselves as politically impartial on the X platform.
Prince David is part of the fifteen-member team appointed to the New Patriotic Party’s Manifesto Committee for tourism, arts, and culture.
He underlined that openly supporting a political party is not a sign of shame.
“Everyone in Ghana is involved in politics, so it’s ridiculous when I hear people say they don’t,” stated David Osei.
The actor argued that “it is time we stop lying to ourselves” and acknowledge the reality that “everyone supports a political party or political ideology.”
David’s recent remarks regarding public individuals disclosing their political affiliations in an open manner have triggered a contentious online debate.
David stated that there is nothing wrong with a citizen participating in politics in a post published on Monday, February 26 via X.
His comments are made in the midst of controversies surrounding the appointment of well-known figures to NPP committees for the 2024 elections, such as Okyeame Kwame and Asamoah Gyan.
In the meantime, Okyeme Kwame has made it clear that his participation does not qualify him as a politician and that he remains available to work with any other political party that could need his experience.
