TANZANIA FINALLY COMES BACK ONLINE AFTER A 5-DAY INTERNET SHUTDOWN

Internet has been restored in Tanzania after 5 days, but the police have warned against sharing content that may “cause distress or degrade someone’s dignity” in a mass text sent to citizens’ phones.

Tanzania experienced a nationwide internet outage on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, as the elections commenced with little to no online communication, in what has been described as a “digital blackout.”

An Internet blackout imposed after protests erupted on Tanzania’s election day Wednesday, was still in place across the East African nation on Thursday.

With President Samia Suluhu Hassan widely expected to solidify her power, protesters have criticised the exclusion of her biggest challengers from the presidential race.
