THIS NPP GOVERNMENT IS NOT TRANSPARENT, AND THEY ARE ARROGANT – Yvonne Nelson

Ghanaian actress and movie producer, Yvonne Nelson castigated President Akufo Addo’s administration at the just-ended ‘DumsorMustStop’ vigil protest.

In an interview with the media during the protest in Accra on June 8, 2024, Yvonne Nelson described the ruling government as arrogant and lacking transparency in their service to the Ghanaian people.

She mentioned that as a Ghanaian she has the right to speak out and express her woes hence her decision to stage the dumsor protest so Ghanaians can have an uninterrupted power supply.

The demonstration, attended by thousands including celebrities Yvonne Nelson, John Dumelo, and DKB, aimed to voice grievances over erratic power supply affecting businesses and communities.

Starting from the University of Ghana’s main gate and proceeding to the Tetteh Quarshie roundabout, the event was covered extensively by various media outlets, highlighting widespread frustration over Ghana’s ongoing power crisis.

Yvonne Nelson also shared her fear of losing a loved one to this crisis and thus felt the need to draw the government’s attention to the damage the power outages are causing in the country.

“Let me tell you why I organised it. I saw a video from Tema General Hospital. I have a condition now, so when I saw the video, it really spoke to me; it really touched me because I know that I could find myself in that position very soon.”

“I am a Ghanaian. I had my first daughter in Ghana, and I may have my future kids in Ghana, so what if it happens to me in the hospital? So, I was a little triggered when I saw that video. It is the reason I went to social media and decided to tweet about Dumsor,” she said.
