TEAM ETERNITY GHANA AND KWAME MICKEY RESOLVE ‘DEFE DEFE’ SONG DISPUTE

Renowned Ghanaian music producer Kwame Mickey, along with musical group Team Eternity, has reached a resolution on a legal matter regarding the song “Defe Defe,” marking a significant milestone in the gospel music industry.

The public announcement was issued in a joint press release by Kwame Mickey, OFM Computer World, and Team Eternity Ghana (TEG).

The dispute began when accusations arose that Team Eternity had incorporated parts of a previously released song, also named “Defe Defe,” by Hallelujah Voices from 20 years ago, without securing permission from the copyright owners.

These allegations were formally brought to light by OFM Computer World and Debrich Group of Companies, a multinational entity with operations across Ghana, Nigeria, and Europe.

Both parties responded to the accusations by entering into negotiations to peacefully resolve the issue. Consequently, a License Agreement has been properly completed.

In this agreement, Kwame Mickey allows TEG to use certain words from the original song in their new version of “Defe Defe,” on a non-exclusive basis.

The positive outcome of the License Agreement negotiation benefits both parties and highlights the significance of proper licensing within the music industry.
