I SUPPORT PEOPLE TRAVELLING BUT I’M SAD THEY ARE LEAVING OUT OF DESPERATION – NDC running mate

The Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Prof Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has expressed concerns over the mass exodus of the youth from the country.

In an interview on Ghanaweb TV’s Election Desk, Prof. Opoku Agyemang said though she doesn’t have a problem the people leaving the country, she’s worried because most of them are leaving out of desperation and frustration due to the country’s economic woes.

These people, she said, travel without considering the risk factors, a situation that needs to be addressed sooner, rather than later.

“That’s unfortunate. My office is very close to some of the embassies and every morning when I drive by and I see them in long queues I feel very sad. What are you offering them in the place of queueing?

“I’m all for people travelling, it’s good to see how other people are also leading their lives, managing with what they have, are putting up their structures or maintaining them. It also broadens your mind… But I’m sad because it’s not that they want to go and see how it’s done somewhere, it’s not that ‘I’ve studied medicine so I want to see it how they practice it elsewhere so I can add to my store of knowledge’. If it’s that ‘I’m desperate that’s why they are leaving,’ that’s where I feel rather sad,” she said.

The former education minister believes everyone must get on board to implement policies that will eradicate problems causing mass migration and the brain drain in the country.
