Former President, John Dramani Mahama advises young people to gain job skills before migrating.
Mahama believes that possessing a skill boosts the likelihood of securing employment in foreign nations.
This declaration was made at a mini durbar in La-Bawaleshie, Accra on July 18, 2024, when John Dumelo was announced as the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon.
Mahama emphasized the significance of possessing a skill, particularly considering the high unemployment rate in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
He urged young individuals who had finished junior high school (JHS) and senior high school (SHS) but had not continued their education to learn a trade.
He pointed out that possessing a skill in carpentry, plumbing, welding, or other areas increases one’s competitiveness in the international job market.
Mahama emphasized the importance of the National Apprenticeship program, which he intends to introduce, as a chance for youth to learn new skills.
“If young people have completed school and have not found a job yet, they should acquire a skill so they can enter the workforce,” Mahama said.
