Famous gospel singer, Grace Ashly, has disclosed that numerous Ghanaian celebrities frequently ask politicians for financial aid.
After being in politics for a while, Ashly observed that politicians often scorn celebrities due to their constant monetary demands.
The artist behind the song ‘Se Nye Nyame A’ noted that constant begging has caused politicians to lose respect for celebrities.
“If you are an entertainer or a celebrity and you get close to politicians, the respect they give you is very low because they know we always beg for money from them,” she said in Twi during an interview with Onua FM on August 19, 2024
Ashly recommended that fellow gospel artists either be transparent about their political engagement or abstain from it if they are unable to handle the criticism.
“If you are a gospel artiste, you can’t hide if you are into politics. You can’t enjoy two cakes at the same time. So, either you do it or abstain from it and focus on your career,” she added.
The artiste has announced her departure from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to join Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change.
