Ghanaian media broadcaster and political commentator, Blakk Rasta has vehemently denounced actor James Gardiner for his recent remarks regarding political alignments and fan backing.
Gardiner made it clear that he is willing to lose followers and fans because of his political beliefs, asserting that he will not compromise his values just to maintain support.
On August 23, 2024, during a live radio broadcast on 3FM, Blakk Rasta criticized Gardiner’s comments as ‘irresponsible’.
“James Gardner says he doesn’t care if you are not his fan because of his decisions. No, sir. Don’t say that.
“This is irresponsible talking. It’s almost like saying my children are old enough to make their own decisions, so, I don’t care if I sit at home and smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol in front of them. Does it make sense to you?” he said.
He believes that celebrities hold a strong sway over their followers and should be conscious of how their actions can affect their fans.
Blakk Rasta also advised celebrities to act responsibly and maintain privacy regarding their political and religious affiliations.
“Let us be responsible. Nobody is saying don’t take sides. You can decide to be a member of any political party, but keep it to yourself.
“Again, you can decide to belong to any religion. But please keep it to yourself as a celebrity,” he urged.
He mentioned that although individuals are entitled to their own beliefs, public figures should be wary of making comments that may come across as arrogant or dismissive towards their followers.
“So, please let’s be careful when we make utterances like this, they are quite arrogant. The people made you. Now you’ve gone to sit on top and you say you don’t care whatever they think of you,” Blakk Rasta concluded.
