The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is set to hold a National Capacity Building Workshop from September 5 to 8, 2024, at the Erata Hotel in Accra.
This significant gathering will unite Union’s National Executive Council members to work on improving MUSIGA’s capabilities.

The workshop, titled “Advancing African Musician Unions,” will be led by two renowned experts in musician Union organization, Thomas Dayan and Jonas Franzen.

Mr. Dayan holds the position of deputy general secretary at the International Federation of Musicians (FIM), while Mr. Franzen is a member of the Swedish Musicians Federation.

The facilitators will lead participants through interactive sessions, discussions, and strategic planning activities to enhance the effectiveness and influence of musician unions in the region.

Important items to be discussed include integrating gender equality into unions and enhancing financial stability, both vital for the development and longevity of musician associations.

The workshop is a place where attendees can exchange ideas, discover effective methods, and investigate innovative approaches to deal with the issues that African musician unions are currently encountering.

Speaking about the workshop, MUSIGA President, Bessa Simons stated, “This capacity-building initiative is a significant step towards empowering our union leaders with the knowledge and tools they need to drive positive change in the music industry. We are committed to fostering a more inclusive and financially robust environment for musicians in Ghana and beyond.”

The MUSIGA National Capacity Building Workshop aims to improve members’ professional development and advocate for musicians in Ghana and Africa.
