Ama K. Abebrese, a British-Ghanaian actress and TV host, has discussed the unexpected challenges she faced when she moved to Ghana.
During a discussion on Okay FM on Friday, September 13, 2024, Ama K. Abebrese discussed her original hopes and the actual experiences she encountered in the Ghanaian media and entertainment sector.
“I arrived in Ghana with the belief that I would be quickly hired by every TV station,” Abebrese admitted.
Even with her extensive background in the UK, she found that the entertainment industry in Ghana posed unique obstacles.
She stated that her professional journey in Ghana began when she got a job at a marketing company for Canoe Magazine. In this position, she learned about nearby casting calls and later connected with filmmaker Leila Djansi, who was looking for actors for a movie. She said that this chance signified the start of her journey in Ghana, despite facing some challenges.
Upon looking back at her journey, Abebrese emphasized the importance of displaying humility when entering unfamiliar surroundings.
“If you’re coming to Ghana, you need to approach it with humility. There are people who have been working in the industry here for many years. I had to remind myself that, despite my experience, I was in a new environment and needed to adjust,” she advised.
