NDC WILL INVESTIGATE ILLEGAL PRACTICE IN PREMIX VALUE CHAIN – Fisheries Association President

The President of the National Fisheries Association, Richter Nii Armah Amarfio, says that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will look into any unlawful and dishonest activities occurring in the premix fuel value chain.

He alleged that in 2017, members of the NPP diverted premix fuel, but no one has been charged with a crime so far.

Mr. Amarfio, speaking at the ‘Political Parties Dialogue on the Fisheries Sector’ on September 17, mentioned that during the NDC government, there was an organized premix secretariat for distributing fuel to fishermen for sale.

“Today, when you come to Tema and you are not NPP, they will not give you premix. That is a truism. The premix is being sold by the NPP people who have nothing to do with fishing,” he stressed.

“His Excellency John Mahama and the NDC government will investigate all illegal and corrupt practices within the premix value chain and make sure that premix is handed over to fishermen and regulated in terms of its management,” he said.

Mr. Amarfio also mentioned that the NDC party plans to tackle illegal and unreported fishing through a strong partnership with the fishing industry.

He mentioned that the focus of the party will be on adherence instead of punishment, emphasizing the importance of fishermen willingly following regulations.

The head of the National Fisheries Association stated that the fishing sector is in crisis and needs to be rebuilt, focusing on restoring and reviving the industry.

“There will be a fishery center where we will provide services for fishermen in other that they will have services at their disposal.”
