President Akufo-Addo stated that his governance in Ghana was supported by certain fundamental principles, which led to him being acknowledged internationally in New York, USA.
The President said this at an award ceremony held by the Atlantic Council Global Citizen Award at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City on September 23, 2024, which celebrated President Akufo-Addo alongside global leaders including Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Korean media pioneer Miky Lee.
During his acceptance speech, President Akufo-Addo stressed that the recognition was not only a personal victory but also a win for all citizens of Ghana, showcasing the principles guiding his leadership of the country.
“Unity, democracy and shared global responsibility” he revealed.
“This recognition reminds me that as president of Ghana, my leadership has been deeply shaped by the principles of unity, democracy, and the shared global responsibility.” He said.
“This moment cannot just be about me. It is about the people of Ghana who inspire me with their resilience, their strength, and unwavering belief in a brighter future. They are the true global citizens and I accept this award on their behalf.
Being in the company of such accomplished individuals—Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy, and media pioneer Nikki Lee of Korea—humbles me.
I’m particularly honoured that my good friend President William Ruto of Kenya has presented me with this award. He represents the new generation of African leadership that holds such promise for our continent.”.
