THREE MONTHS IS STILL ENOUGH TO FULFIL YOUR PROMISE TO FIGHT GALAMSEY BEFORE YOU LEAVE OFFICE – GJA President Tells President Akufo-Addo In His Face

The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has called on the President of Ghana to honour his commitment to combat illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.

Akufo-Addo promised to risk his Presidency to combat illegal mining in Ghana due to the threats it posed to the environment, particularly water bodies.

Nevertheless, the efforts appear to have been unsuccessful years later as the condition of river bodies continues to decline and the attractiveness of several forest reserves is diminishing.

Addressing attendees at the Ghana Journalists Awards in Accra on September 28, 2024, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), advised the president to fulfill his commitment to the people of Ghana in the next three months.

“We are aware that some time ago, Mr President, the father of the nation, made a firm vow to stop galamsey but regrettably that promise has not been fulfilled. Mr President, you have barely three months until the end of your administration, and we are hopeful that you’ll deal with the problem before you leave office,” he urged.
