“I DIDN’T KNOW I WAS THAT IMPORTANT”: Serwaa Amihere Addresses Viral Arrest Rumors

Accra, Ghana – Media personality Serwaa Amihere has finally broken her silence after the viral rumors surrounding her supposed arrest made waves on social media earlier this month. The news anchor, who was mistakenly depicted in a widely circulated picture as being arrested by the police, has spoken candidly about how the situation unfolded.

The misunderstanding started on 14 October 2024, when blogger NKONKONSA posted a screenshot of a picture showing Serwaa in handcuffs, escorted by police officers. The post led many to believe she had been arrested, sparking a flurry of reactions across social media. However, it was soon revealed that the picture was taken from a music video shoot for gospel artist Piesie Esther, and the Ghana Police Service quickly issued a statement clarifying the situation.

Speaking for the first time on the matter during an interview with GhOne TV on 18 October, Serwaa addressed the false reports with a mixture of humor and composure. “Honestly, I didn’t know I was that important,” she said with a laugh, responding to the social media frenzy her supposed arrest had caused.

Serwaa explained that she was not bothered by the misinformation, largely because she knew the truth behind the video and trusted that it would be clarified soon. “I wasn’t worried at all,” she said, adding that Piesie Esther had called her in concern, but she reassured her friend that everything was fine. “It was just a video. Don’t worry about it,” Serwaa recalled telling Piesie Esther.

While the video was a part of a music video production, the initial social media backlash led to widespread speculation, with some questioning the nature of the footage. However, Serwaa remained calm throughout the ordeal, confident that the Ghana Police Service’s clarification would quickly set the record straight.

When asked about the impact of the viral story on her personal and professional life, Serwaa shrugged it off, saying, “It didn’t affect me at all. I knew what was happening, and it wasn’t a big deal to me.” She added that she was amused by how quickly the story escalated but chose to stay quiet until everything was cleared up.

Piesie Esther, who was also involved in the music video, echoed Serwaa’s sentiments, noting that they were both aware of the context behind the footage and did not take the situation too seriously.

Serwaa’s lighthearted approach to the controversy, combined with her confidence in the truth, has helped her maintain her composure in the face of viral misinformation, turning what could have been a stressful situation into a humorous anecdote.
