AGBOGBLOSHIE FIRE OUTBREAK: VICTIMS AND DISPLACED RESIDENTS APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT FOR COMPENSATION

On Sunday, November 24, a significant fire occurred in Agbogbloshie Old Fadama, Accra, resulting in the destruction of numerous makeshift houses and causing displacement for many residents.

The fire resulted in substantial damage to property, but thankfully, there were no injuries or deaths reported.

The fire, which took place at night, resulted in extensive damage to the property, leading to losses amounting to thousands of cedis.

Residents who have been displaced are now urging the government for immediate assistance.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) stated briefly that the fire started around 9:38 PM, with two fire pumps quickly sent to the location.

Although facing initial difficulties, the fire department managed to bring the fire under control by 12:54 AM on Monday and fully put it out by 1:38 AM.

Despite the significant destruction, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities. Nevertheless, the complete information about the event remains vague.

An affected resident Abdul Taziz Tahidu recounted his experience:

I woke from sleep when I sensed that the fire had started. I proceeded to drive my family out of the room and then joined other residents in trying to fight the fire. After unsuccessful attempts, I called the fire service for assistance.

Mohammed Amin, a victim of the fire as a mobile money vendor, stated that he suffered a loss of more than 800,000 cedis during the incident. He requested immediate assistance from the government.

I have lost over 800,000 cedis because everything in my store got burnt. I am therefore appealing to the government to come to our aid and help because we don’t have anywhere to sleep. We are on our knees because, without the government, we have no other option.
