JOURNALIST DON’T HAVE THE CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY TO DECLARE ELECTIONS – GJA President

The President of the Ghana Journalist Association(GJA), Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has indicated that journalists should not announce election outcomes.

During a recent appearance on TV3’s Hot Issues, Dwumfour stressed the importance of journalists enabling citizens to witness the elections and make their own assessments on which party is in the lead.

He highlighted that certain journalists incorrectly announce election results, sometimes due to enthusiasm or carelessness.

“There is a fine distinction between calling elections and declaring them. As journalists, we do not possess the constitutional authority to declare election results,” he remarked.
