The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Mahama, has drawn a parallel between himself and a “retired army general” reentering service as he campaigns for reelection in the forthcoming general elections.
During a meeting with district and municipal Imams in the Ashanti Region on December 2, 2024, Mr. Mahama articulated his commitment to confronting Ghana’s urgent challenges.
This engagement was part of his six-day campaign tour, during which the former president criticized what he characterized as the current administration’s economic mismanagement and governance shortcomings.
Mr. Mahama assured the religious leaders of his preparedness to provide effective leadership that would guide the nation towards recovery and advancement. He pledged to prioritize sound and pragmatic policies designed to restore stability and enhance the living conditions of Ghanaians.
Furthermore, he underscored his dedication to addressing the needs of all citizens, including marginalized communities, under his leadership. He also encouraged the Imams to support his vision for a better Ghana, asserting that his experience and determination render him the most suitable candidate to address the country’s challenges.
“If we go to war, and we encounter difficulties, we go back to call the retired general to come back and lead us.
“This is a clear illustration of myself because I am a retired general and I went to rest, but it is time to come back for we are in a difficult period, so my party has nominated me to lead the party.”
“I know that many of you pray for us and give us guidelines to follow. I thank every one of you for your prayers,” he said.
