Honorable George Obeng Takyi, the outgoing Member of Parliament for the Manso Nkwanta constituency, has issued a strong appeal for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to publicly acknowledge accountability for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 elections.
This electoral setback is characterized as a significant loss, with the NPP succumbing to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former President John Dramani Mahama.
In a recent interview with a local radio station, Hon. Obeng Takyi attributed the party’s electoral shortcomings to internal divisions that arose during the NPP primaries. He accused President Akufo-Addo of adopting a “scheming role” throughout the candidate selection process, which he asserts contributed to a fracture in party unity and alienated grassroots supporters.
The outgoing MP contended that the actions of the party leadership engendered profound discontent among its members, which ultimately manifested in the disappointing electoral results.
“President Akufo-Addo should come out publicly to accept responsibility for NPP’s defeat,”
Obeng Takyi declared. “He must apologize to Ghanaians for the scheming role he played in the NPP primaries. The cracks created during that process cost us dearly.”
