There is extensive enthusiasm and celebration after the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) electoral win in 2024, signifying the conclusion of what opponents of the present government label the bleak period of Nana Akufo-Addo’s rule.
Ghanaians anticipate a fresh chapter with John Mahama, who is scheduled to take the oath of office as President on January 7, 2025.
This feeling was mirrored by the Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, in an interview on a radio station in Kumasi.
He linked the festivities throughout the nation, especially among NDC supporters and allies, to the enduring discontent with the departing government.
In his statements, Mr. Gbande was outspoken as he criticized President Akufo-Addo’s approach to leadership and governance.
Mr. Gbande similarly cautioned that individuals appointed by the departing administration who exploited their roles for personal gain to the detriment of the country would encounter repercussions.
“President Akufo-Addo is a nepotistic, tribalistic, and discriminative politician who undermines those he does not like.
He was never a president for all Ghanaians; he was a president for his family, brothers, and sisters. He presided over the highest levels of political scandal and fraud in this country,” he stated bluntly.
“After January 7th, everybody will see their true size in this country. Let me assure you, anyone who has stolen anything that belongs to Ghana will have to either return it voluntarily or be pursued until it is recovered.”
He continued, “We are politicians, but this is not about politics; it is a fight for our generation and the future. The NPP has stolen more than they need—not because they were in dire need, but simply to deny the rest of us the benefits of this country. That is wickedness and pure evil.”
