President-elect John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to tackling corruption and minimizing inefficiencies in the public sector to drive the nation’s progress.
In a recent discussion with Germany’s DW TV, Mahama revealed his government’s intentions to implement significant reforms focused on improving governance, increasing accountability, and reducing waste in public institutions.
Mahama recognized the prevalent public discontent regarding inadequate resource management, governance failures, and the increasing debt levels of the country.
He identified corruption and inefficiency as significant obstacles to national advancement, stressing the importance of structural reforms to attain economic stability and effective governance.
Mahama states that constitutional reform is a primary focus of his government.
He said,
“One of the first things we will do would be to take the whole issue of constitutional review again and see how we can structure things so that we have a more dynamic constitution going forward.”
He also emphasized the significance of addressing corruption and waste directly, mentioning:
He stated;
“And so how do we improve our governance system so that we are not having so much waste as a result of corruption and waste? So that is something that we need to look at to ensure our economic managers can manage it in such a way that we don’t end up where we have found ourselves at this time in terms of debt management.”
Mahama emphasized the importance of aligning constitutional changes with the realities of contemporary governance, especially by implementing measures that make public officials accountable and impose severe consequences for corrupt behaviour.
He believes these alterations will improve the efficiency of Ghana’s governance system and rebuild public trust.
