Senior Pastor Kwadwo Boateng Bempah of Holy Hill Chapel, Assemblies of God, Ghana, has urged the incoming administration of John Dramani Mahama to prioritize economic recovery over pursuing alleged wrongdoers from the previous government.
In a candid address, Pastor Bempah, who maintains no political affiliations, expressed his frustration with Ghana’s leadership trajectory, emphasizing the need to put the well-being of citizens first.
“We voted them out because they wanted to make people poor,” he stated, referencing the previous administration’s economic policies, which many Ghanaians criticized for deepening financial hardships. “If the next government also tries it… I am not a politician or a member of any party. But anybody whose leadership does not prioritize the well-being of the people will regret it,” he cautioned.
Pastor Bempah also criticized the incoming government’s apparent focus on prosecuting officials from the past administration, describing it as a distraction from pressing economic challenges.
“I have seen the new people also making efforts to ‘catch people.’ My friend, take your time. We didn’t vote for you to be catching people,” he remarked, calling for a shift in focus toward economic stabilization and recovery.
While acknowledging the importance of accountability, the pastor stressed that it must not overshadow the urgent need to address economic issues such as inflation and the depreciation of the cedi.
“We want the economy well. That is why you said you wanted to come to power. Catching somebody will not bring money into my pocket, so stay focused,” Pastor Bempah urged. “Bring the dollar down; you said you will do it, so do it now.”
His remarks have sparked conversations about the balance between ensuring accountability and addressing the nation’s economic woes, with many calling on the Mahama-led government to prioritize tangible solutions for Ghana’s economic recovery.
