Renowned Ghanaian fashion designer Mathew Agambire has opened up about his journey to designing a custom outfit for former President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking in an interview on GHOne with Serwaa Amihere, monitored by MyNewsGh, Agambire detailed how he crafted the outfit with precision, despite not having a direct connection with the former president.
“I don’t think that’s something difficult; I was not so sure, but the fact of the matter is that I just wanted to make something for him for the occasion,” Agambire said.
“There were two candidates; either of them could win, so I decided to go with him because I felt he was the one who fit best with my idea.”
His thoughtful approach wasn’t just about the design itself but also about how he reached Mahama. Agambire shared how he studied Mahama’s appearance and estimated his body measurements based on a photo.
“The same way I get in touch with most of my high-profile clients, I created a brand targeting a certain calibre of people, but it’s not easy to get to them like that,” Agambire explained.
“So, I just took his picture, studied his body, and estimated his measurements.”
What followed was a bold move on Agambire’s part. “When I finished, I got in touch with someone close to him and said, ‘Can you deliver this to him?
“Maybe he will like it.’ It is the same approach I use to reach people I don’t have prior contact with.”
