MARK ZUCKERBERG HIGHLIGHTS WHATSAPP SECURITY RISKS AMID U.S. AGENCY ACCESS CONCERNS

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has acknowledged that U.S. authorities, including agencies like the CIA, could potentially access WhatsApp messages by exploiting vulnerabilities in users’ devices, bypassing the platform’s encryption.

Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience, Zuckerberg explained that while WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption ensures that Meta cannot read users’ messages, device security remains a weak link. If physical access to a device is obtained, stored data could be compromised.

He referenced the use of advanced spyware, such as Pegasus, to illustrate how such breaches might occur. In response to these challenges, WhatsApp is rolling out enhanced privacy features, including disappearing messages, to bolster user security.
