EDUCATION MINISTER HARUNA IDDRISU DIRECTS UG TO SLASH RESIDENTIAL FEES FROM GHC3,000 TO GHC2,500

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has directed the management of the University of Ghana (UG) to reduce residential facility fees from GHC3,000 to GHC2,500 for both freshers and continuing students. The directive comes amid growing concerns over the rising cost of tertiary education and its impact on students and their families.

The Minister’s intervention follows widespread complaints from students and stakeholders about the high cost of accommodation on campus, which many argue is unsustainable for the average Ghanaian family. The reduction is expected to provide some relief to students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, as they navigate their academic journeys.

The University of Ghana has yet to issue an official response to the directive, but sources indicate that the institution is working to comply with the Minister’s orders.

This development comes at a time when the cost of living and education-related expenses continue to rise, putting pressure on students and their families. The Minister’s directive is seen as a timely intervention to address these challenges and ensure that financial constraints do not hinder access to quality education.
