President John Dramani Mahama has strongly criticized the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, accusing it of recklessly mismanaging Ghana’s economy during its eight years in office.
Addressing members of the National Tripartite Committee (NTC) on Thursday, February 20, President Mahama described the state of the economy as a “crime scene,” emphasizing the severity of the economic downturn caused by what he called careless governance.
“We all knew the economy was in crisis, but some of the things I’m uncovering… I mean, it’s been a criminal handling of our economy. Ghana is actually a crime scene because I cannot fathom how a government could have been this reckless,” he stated.
He further noted that public trust in the political class has been eroded due to the perception of unfair sacrifices, where ordinary citizens are forced to tighten their belts while politicians continue to enjoy privileges.
“There is a growing distrust in the political class because it appears that while everyone else is making sacrifices, politicians are doing the opposite. But I want to assure you that under my administration, we will all tighten our belts. There will be no wasteful spending,” he assured.
President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to restoring economic stability, urging collaboration and collective effort to steer the country toward recovery.
