The Ministry of the Interior has set new curfew hours for Walewale and nearby communities. Beginning February 22, 2025, everyone must remain indoors from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
This action is based on advice received from the North East Regional Security Council.
The curfew was put in place after a suspected gun attack by unknown individuals on the Walewale-Bolgatanga Highway, which led to seven deaths and the destruction of two vehicles.
Furthermore, a complete ban on the possession of firearms, ammunition, and dangerous weapons has been declared in Walewale and its surrounding areas.
Residents are unhappy with the curfew that began on February 15, citing issues like military harshness and other grievances.
