A special committee’s report after the election indicated that although Nana Akufo-Addo implemented significant infrastructural projects, the government’s neglect of Ashanti Region’s progress and ineffective campaign communication resulted in the NPP’s unprecedented loss in 2024.
The report obtained by MyNewsGh revealed that 88% of participants recognized significant initiatives such as the Prempeh I International Airport, several hospitals, local roads, and Free SHS, yet mentioned that these did not result in votes.
Moreover, 87% of those surveyed condemned the unfair allocation of projects, stating that the Ashanti Region was overlooked in favor of Greater Accra and the Eastern Region.
“Most of these projects were either commissioned too late or poorly communicated to voters,” some party members lamented.
Additionally, 87% of respondents criticized the unequal distribution of projects, claiming Ashanti Region was sidelined in favor of Greater Accra and the Eastern Region.
“We built five interchanges in Accra and Tamale, but Suame’s interchange hasn’t even reached 5% completion in five years,” a frustrated party supporter noted.
“Kumasi Central Market, Race Course Market, Boankra Inland Port—none were finished in time to make a difference at the polls.”
The deep-seated resentment was summed up by a Senior High School teacher from Kumawu: “We realized Ashanti Region votes to help other regions get development.
“This time, we wanted those regions to vote for their own development. We stayed away from the polls.”
