The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has finalised activities for Ghana’s 68th Independence anniversary, outlining a series of events to mark the occasion.

A statement from Sunday, February 23, detailed the lineup for upcoming events.

It all starts with commemorating the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident on Friday, 28th February 2025.

The following days will see the finals of a national school quiz competition on Sunday, 2nd March 2025, and a debate competition on Tuesday, 4th March 2025.

On Wednesday, 5th March 2025, the President will hold an awards ceremony for school children.

This event leads up to a grand parade at the presidency’s forecourt on Thursday, 6th March 2025.

Ahead of the 28th February commemoration, the NCPC Communications Subcommittee plans to distribute historical and educational materials to enhance public awareness and encourage greater participation in the events.

According to the committee, “with this new approach, we hope to reset the interest and participation of the youth and the general populace in this significant national event whilst remembering and honouring our heroes.”

As part of the programme, an X-space conversation will be hosted on the theme “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present.” The committee has also encouraged “radio, television, online and print media to host and publish conversations to promote the anniversary theme and other activities to deepen public participation.”

The wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Nationalism Park at 8 a.m. on Friday, 28th February 2025, and will be broadcast live on multiple platforms. The public and media have been urged to participate actively.

Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has called on stakeholders to support the anniversary celebrations, stating, “We encourage the media, bloggers, and the public to actively participate by sharing information with your viewers, listeners, and readers.”
