PRESIDENT MAHAMA VOWS TO BRING NSS GHOST NAMES CULPRITS TO JUSTICE…DIRECTS THAT THEY BE DECLARED WANTED AND THEIR ASSETS CONFISCATED

At the State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2025, President John Dramani Mahama declared that perpetrators of the National Service Scheme (NSS) ghost names scandal will face the full force of the law. The President’s stern warning came as part of his administration’s broader efforts to combat corruption and recover looted public funds.

“To recover all the looted funds, I’ve already tasked our investigative bodies to bring the culprits of the National Service ghost names scandal to justice. Such brazen thefts of public funds must not go unpunished,” President Mahama stated emphatically.

The scandal, which involved the fraudulent addition of over 80,000 ghost names to the NSS payroll, is estimated to have cost the nation over 50 million Ghana Cedis every month. This staggering loss of public funds has sparked outrage among citizens and raised serious concerns about systemic corruption within government institutions.

President Mahama revealed that some suspects believed to be involved in the scandal have already fled the country. In response, he has directed security agencies to declare them wanted and seize their assets. “Unfortunately, some of these suspects are believed to have absconded from the country already. I have directed that they be declared wanted and their assets confiscated to recover the stolen funds,” he announced.

The President’s commitment to tackling corruption head-on was a central theme of his address. He emphasized that his administration would not tolerate the misuse of public resources, particularly at a time when the country is working to rebuild its economy and restore public trust in governance.

“This is not just about recovering money; it’s about sending a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated under my watch. Those who steal from the people will face the consequences,” Mahama declared.

The NSS ghost names scandal has been a major talking point in Ghana, with many citizens calling for accountability and transparency in the management of public funds. President Mahama’s strong stance has been met with widespread approval, with anti-corruption advocates and civil society organizations praising his decisive action.
