Well-known media figure Blakk Rasta has voiced significant worry about the increasing popularity of betting in Ghana, urging for a complete prohibition of the activity.
During his Urban Blend show on 3FM, which was observed by MyNewsGh, he asserted that gambling has become more addictive than narcotics, yet the nation has accepted it as a standard practice.
“Betting is very, very contagious. It hooks you even more than crack and cocaine! Yet we have decided to legalize it in this country,” he fumed.
Blakk Rasta referenced studies showing that almost 50% of the population in Ghana participates in betting.
“42% of Ghanaians are engaged in sports betting. How many Ghanaians vote? How many pay their taxes? But they will wake up and throw their hard-earned money into betting!” he exclaimed.
He also condemned the Gaming Commission’s recent decision to restrict betting centers near schools and places of worship, considering it unproductive.
“You say you will shut down betting centers near churches and schools. What sense does that make? Betting can take place even in our bedrooms! The best way to fight this cancer is to ban betting entirely,” he declared.
Blakk Rasta claimed that Ghana’s reliance on gambling indicates a more profound societal issue.
“A country that throws everything to chance, instead of using scientific methods, has no future! We cannot develop if we keep betting our lives away,” he concluded.
