WE ARE NOT SHEDDING LOAD SO THERE IS NO NEED TO PUBLISH A LOAD-SHEDDING TIMETABLE — Energy Minister, John Jinapor Tells Minority

Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor has turned down the proposal to create a timetable for planned power outages. This decision comes despite some parts of the country experiencing power cuts.

At a media briefing at the Jubilee House on Friday, Jinapor stressed that Ghana is not currently undergoing load shedding, so a schedule is unnecessary.

“Today, let me put on record that we are not shedding load and so the demand by the minority and some people that we publish a load shedding timetable is mute. When you are not shedding load, there is no need to publish a timetable,” he declared.

He acknowledged that there are some issues within the power system but reassured citizens that there is enough electricity available.

In fact, Ghana is supplying electricity to neighboring countries, indicating no need for an official power outage timetable.

“In fact, as we speak, we are exporting about 300 megawatts of power outside Ghana to Burkina, Benin, and neighbouring countries. And so when you have enough and you are exporting power to other countries, obviously there will be no need to publish a load shedding timetable,” he added.

Jinapor admitted that there are challenges with fuel supply in Ghana. He detailed the financial requirements necessary to ensure a stable supply of electricity.

“In order to meet the demand requirements, we require about 700 million dollars’ worth of fuel in order to fill the fuel deficit because our gas today is inadequate to meet our fuel requirement,” he stated.
